Camping in the clearing
The clearing is now offering raised platform camping spots to the spiritual minded in the Western NC / Eastern TN area. Catering to the overstressed energetically sensitive person or couples located in the Appalachian Mountains. Located about 40 minutes north of Asheville at the base of Mt Mitchell, we have two levels of camping available; one spot for scampers, van’s, RV parking and for the more tent oriented, raised and powered platforms for your tent. This experience is built to allow the more sensitive among our locals a chance to stop, slow, reconnect and ground with nature for a night or two. Spend a day watching the river rush around you as you soak in some sun or an evening looking up at the universe in clear view. With the limited ability to reserve ahead, and a shifting schedule around longer-term and group rentals, our locals or the last-minute travelers will not have to fight for a last-minute spot with the tourists or scheduled vacationers. You can’t plan a nervous breakdown or an overwhelming week; we hope, with these policies to support our local community first in the moments they really need a balanced and connected spot to rest.
All of the western North Carolina region, where the Clearing is located, took a physically and mentally beating one year ago. The trauma, the stress, the political environment, the need to survive where costs are skyrocketing, and jobs haven’t come back for many people. Lives lost of person, pets, livestock, the wild animals. Many lost their homes, their roads, lifetimes and generations of family heirlooms and precious moments. We are all a little overwhelmed at best and hanging on by a thread to our sanity at worst. The land doesn’t judge, it embraces all of humanity, all religions, all races, all backgrounds and all forms of love as part of its own system. It wants to share its comfort, its grounding, its river and stream, its viewing platform to the universe. It wants to heal people.
The clearing has powered raised tent platforms and a heated bathhouse. Each platform has it's own circuit to ensure enough power to run tent heaters without blowing out your neighbor. A spot rental will be one raised platform for your tent and then one raised platform for your convenience. Have a van or scamper? We have one hookup spot right next to the heated bathhouse. We have a max capacity of 6 people sharing the bathhouse at any one time.
We are offering one, two or three night stays for the overwhelmed, the creative who needs to unplug, The couple having a special moment, or anyone having a the last-minute need to breathe clean air, build a fire, look up at the universe and feel the land accept them.
The land boosts private river access with side stream on the north toe river. Dark sky certification skies ensure no ambient light to interfere with your view of the universe on clear nights, a huge fire pit with stone patio, and a groomed path down to a private river beach and a HUGE rock formation jutting out into the river. In the other direction, a stormed damaged hiking trail runs up the river to state land where you can see an amazing beaver damn and a mica mine. This area took a HUGE amount of damage so if you want to explore in that direction, be ready for some exercise!
Reservations for these spots can only be made up to 3 days beforehand and up to 3pm for that night. Max stay is 2 nights. This experience is sporadic around our 1-3 week THOW, Schoolie, Vanlife, Class A staycation rentals and small group rentals on the property. I have made the choice to advertise the nightly glamping experience in only local outlets and our private Facebook page and not on the main site.
