The broom closet
he clearing has decided to offer a minimalist glamping motel for the overstressed energetically sensitive person or couples. Located about 30 minutes north of Asheville at the base of Mt Mitchell, we will have a glamping rental experience made to allow the more sensitive among us a chance to stop, slow, reconnect and ground with nature. With the limited ability to reserve ahead, and a shifting schedule, local’s or the last minute travelers will not have to fight for with the tourists or planned out travelers. You can’t plan a nervous breakdown or an overwhelming day, we hope with these policies to support our local community first.
All of the western North Carolina region took a beating, both physically and mentally. The trauma, the stress, the political environment, the need to survive where costs are skyrocketing, and jobs haven’t come back for many people. We are all a little overwhelmed at best and the hits seem to keep coming. The land doesn’t judge, it embraces all of humanity, all religions, all races, all backgrounds and all forms of love as part of its own system. It wants to share it’s comfort, it’s grounding, it’s viewing platform to the universe. It wants to heal people.
The clearing has powered raised tent platforms and a heated bathhouse. Our three-season tents with cots, table and chairs allow for the non-camper to show up with the bedding and toothbrush or rent just a platform for your tent and gear. Have a van or scamper? We have a hookup spot.
We are offering one-to-three-night stays for the overwhelmed, the creative who needs to unplug, The couple having a special moment, or anyone having a the last-minute need to breathe clean air, build a fire, look up at the universe and remember who they are.
The land boosts private river access with side stream on the north toe river. Dark sky certification skies ensure no ambient light to interfere with your view of the universe, a huge fire pit with stone patio, and paths connect to state land and a hiking trail running up the river to a beaver damn and a mica mine; she is looking to embrace and renew the people.
Reservations for these glamping spots can only be made up to 2 days beforehand or down to the last minute. This experience is sporadic around our 1-3 week THOW, Schoolie, Vanlife, Class A staycation rentals and small group rentals on the property. I have made the choice to advertise the nightly glamping experience in only local outlets and not on the main site. For these reasons the locals should have a decent shot at getting a spot when they are open. We will have a newsletter if you want to be aware of open days at the start of the month.
We have three accommodation types:
All three include access to a shared heated three-piece bathroom located inside a small temperature-controlled storage house. Included is a shared fridge/freezer (ice trays), coffee pot and kettle, a pot, a pan and a convection top cooker. The water is well and was last tested in December 2024 and found to be perfect. I have a maximum of six guests at any given time, two per spot. Tent spots are all raised powered platforms with individual circuits to handle the power needs of individual tent heaters.
Nationally registered Service Animals are always allowed. PSD is allowed with national group certification OR canine good citizen certification. A simple ESA is not acceptable without a GCC. We also accept nationally accredited therapy animal registrations.
We do have active natural wildlife near the camp area including large birds of prey who hunt the river. We highly recommend you always keep even registered animals close to you and under your watchful eye.
General Rules –
1. All State and local laws apply to guests. Yes you need a fighting license to fish off the property, there is no hunting on property.
2. No Foraging. The land is not large enough for everyone to pick a plant.
3. No open flames in the tents.
4. Respect your neighbors if you have any, No music unless you have asked permission from our other guests or earplugs. Please sit downwind if you are going to smoke. Don’t’ expect everyone to want to talk to you. Friendliness is great and there are shared areas, but respect everyone’s desire to commune with nature in their own way. Many people are here for the sound of nature alone. Here alone? Go wild.
5. No food in the tents. The storage area is large and there is plenty of room for you to keep your food. The car park area is equally as close if you wish to keep food or food trash in your car.
6. If you are using the coffee maker, the pot or pan, clean up after yourself!
