You wake up all snuggly warm in your three season platform tent, heater running on the floor, or maybe you brought your own tent to set up on your private powered platform. Lazily making your way to the coffee bar and your private mini fridge for a quick breakfast.  Grabbing your mug you chat with the another early riser drinking tea in the communal area before wandering back to your tent for your morning meditation and journaling. 

After lunch you stand in front of the arts and crafts shelves, so many choices! Shall you play with glass etch and chalices?  Wrap the glorious wand you found down at the river yesterday with leather and stones?    You grab a paint by numbers kit and a small mobile easel and head off down the path to the river.  

As you walk through the woods you can hear the river rushing down below, the birds chirping.  You stop, take a moment to breathe deeply and just listen.  No rush here, no reason to hurry.  As you continue, you wander past the little branch path and notice the person from tent 3 sitting on their blanket cross legged facing the river.  You quietly pass by that fork and continue down the hand cut branch “stairs” to the large rock jutting out into the river.  You hear music playing as you approach the raised platform overlooking the rock.  A couple of the witches from Tent 1 were laying out in the sun.  One was sitting on the edge of the natural “tub”, as the river rushed by and over her feet.  “Hey there!” She called, “Do you like the music?” she asked politely.  “Sure do” you call back as you get comfortable on the rock and set up the easel.  You get a little cup of water from the river to rinse your brush in.  While chatting with the girls, they tell you the guy in Tent 4, he calls himself “Raven” and had come in this morning as the last of our little group; was down at the fairy stream taking photos for his sketching later.  You think to yourself, so warm and comfortable, sitting on the big rock, maybe later I’ll walk up the riverbank and take a look.
 
 
Later that evening, you sat in your camp chair on the stone patio with a small group of five.  Raven and the crone were starting the bonfire although it looked like Raven was doing most of it and having the time of his life doing it.   You smiled and sipped the tea you were trying from the tea bar, a local blend with mint and peach, Lovely.  You had thrown your chicken on the “meat dedicated” grill earlier in the evening and enjoyed dinner with the group up in the communal area.

The girls were chatting softly, holding hands, faced away from the fire pit, their feet up and looking up into the universe.  They had politely explained you get the best view if the fire was to your back.  Maybe after the entertainment of the fire building is over, you will turn around.  You look up and really SEE the universe.  Still a little light out, the red string lights around the outside of the pit pop on.  It’s breathtaking, even now.  As the light fades, the depth of shiny twinkling lights in the sky covers the earth like a blanket.  You breath in deeply and close your eye’s feeling the universal energy pour through you and into the rock under your feet.  Two more lazy days of doing nothing but enjoying yourself and being connected to nature in a way you just can’t feel in the city.  I slow drum beat starts, and you listen to the crackle, sip your tea, enjoy this moment.

After a bit you shift around to face away from the fire, now seeming to catch and hold on it’s own.  You think about tomorrow, tickets at the Bare Observatory planetarium right up the road and an up close and personal view of Saturn!   As promised the universe became even clearer and the moon shined down as if it was just for you.  Your eye’s wander over to the “Sun Pad” where Tent One (in your mind now known just as One) was sitting on their blanket facing the moon perfectly still in the dark.  You think, how interesting it must be to just “be” for three or four days, without speaking, or thinking about what anyone else is doing; how relaxing that must be. 

You scratch the bug bit on your arm and remember there was a “Bug Be Gone” spell receipt in your Broom Closet Grimoire that was in your welcome basket.   Tomorrow you will have to start your day with a little magical boost and a roller vial of bug be gone you make yourself!  You also found some lovely flowers for the dehydrator tomorrow to put into your jar.  There was a small nature oriented group alter in the communal area, and you had been gifted a personal keepsake memory jar for your small collected items from camp.

You sigh contently and enjoy the stars. 
 
Broom Closet Nature Camp

No politics here!    No Judgement!   Use your time in your way.  Perhaps you will have earplugs and music the entire stay, politely nodding to people when you pass but being totally within yourself the entire time; or maybe you want to laugh and joke and have polite conversations with others in the community table and sitting areas located all over the property.  Yoga on the little rock beach with only the river passing by, or stretch out in the sun on the large boulder and listen to music with a few other campers; with a maximum of only eight people on site at any time, lots of room to just be you and do it your way.

Why Broom Closet Camp
I grew up in the southern United States in a small town long before the internet.  I was taught witchcraft by my mother and grandfather, hand in hand with “what we did at home, stayed at home” training.  A smart move in the 60’s by my mother.  Although I could attend open American Indian events by my teen years, I could not go to any sort of daytime or overnight pagan events for fear of being seen; as my career grew, being outed came with larger repercussions.  I started Broom Closet Camp because I know there are people like me, in a very changing world, who just need down time for a few days to re-access their own world and lift themselves up.  A change of thought process, a little breathing room, a little natural connection, can make a world of difference.

Weather it’s just an inspiration for something you can do in your living room over a long weekend, or you actually get to come experience camp, I hope I inspire growth, in your own time, and your own way. 

Safety in the deep South
“Broom Closet” camp takes place in the heart of the Appalachian mountains 40 minutes north of Asheville.  A secret little gathering of nature-based, like-minded people.  This area is the deep south and deeply religious.  Although the neighbors are lovely and know they are looking at a nature camp group; we are definitely not “loud and proud” about being witches.  Location for camp is given only after deposit for safety purposes. This is a place for people to finally be who they always wanted to be, without repercussions or worry.   What happens at Broom Closet camp, stays at Broom Closet camp! This is a place where we can be safe, have fun and not fear being seen in the wrong place or affiliated in the wrong way.  No matter your religion, background, orientation or personal preferences; you are welcome at Broom Closet Camp.   Delivery, housekeeping and assorted tradesman see us as a “getting back in touch with nature group” only.  Bathhouse will be cleaned and trash removed daily.  Credit card payments are made to a camping / rv rental company for “camping rental space”.  This is a chance for people who must live in the closet, to feel safe and yet included at the same time.

No Sharing of location with the general public.  Obviously, You never want to go someplace without telling someone you trust where you are going, no matter the circumstances.  ​


What you get for the price of admission
The broom closet takes place on a property in the heart of the Appalachian Mountains.  When you arrive, you will see four raised platforms around a massive fire pit!  If you have chosen a full glamping spot, You will be providing a three season high wind tent already set up on the platform with a cot (Bring your own bedding and pillows!), a folding camp chair, a folding table, extension cord plugged into the corner of your platform, running into your tent and a small heater that should keep you toasty in the cold nights.  Even in June and July it can get down to the high 40’s at night and generally hovers in the high 60's.  There is high speed wifi on property at bathhouse, you should be able to get it in the tents area depending on your phone.  Cell connection is sketchy at best.  No signal, cell or wifi, on forest trail or down at river.  If you are bringing your own camping gear, you will have a raised 8x8 platform right with the group, individual powered to set up on.   

There is a large, heated bath house with one toilet and shower that is shared.  One of the reasons the maximum number of campers is 8, two adults max per tent platform.  Also located in the bathhouse, your private mini fridge, coffee/tea bar, micro and enough craft supply and support equipment to keep you busy for days.

​A witchy welcome basket will be awaiting you filled with trinkets and bottles herbs and oils; magical things including our Broom Closet Grimoire.   All the components found in the craft area to build your own little ritual.  From Bug be gone roller ball bottles to your own magical weekend jar of memories, there will be something your witchy heart enjoys here.     Maybe while you are checking out of the craft closet, you will decide to crochet yourself a witch hat!  Before arrival you will have a welcome handout with a full list of the mundane crafts available and links to how to 101 videos and instructions.   Your private grimoire will have it’s own directions, provided supplies and room for personal notes on what suits you best!  All direction links and handouts will be available right in the closet.  Our high speed wifi will keep you in the know without breaking your flow!  With over 20 different crafting activities to play with, you are sure to find something interesting to try!

Fire Bug?  Enough dead wood all over property to keep the fire going all four days.  Wood and fire will be provided by host for Full Moon IF no one wants to be the Fire Wrangler for the event and take on the flame!

The Nitty Gritty
Age restricted to 21 and older.  Covering up the private bits is required during the day and in tent and public areas.  Late into the night or down on the private paths, you can be you.  Be Polite and keep the full nudity yoga stretching or leather head harness to off the beaten path but have fun!  Always wanted to wander around in a loin cloth free and hanging?  Now’s the moment!  No bra for 4 days in a row, you have found your people!!

The property is located directly off a dead end county maintained road.  We are one of the first to get power restored, wind damage removed for access and snow removed during the work week.  While this is a great benefit it does come with the downside of truck traffic from 8-5 M-F.  Most of the property is private and secluded, but nothing like a truck going by at 8am to be a little annoying.

The land is being reclaimed from decades of trash and dead tires.  Although we have come a long long ways in cleaning and renewing in the area, we still have tires all over the property and like most of the earth, the trash pick up is never ending.  The neighbors are very aware of illegal dumpers and we have put a considerable dent in the removal of their mess, it’s a never ending task. 

This is a camping experience.  There will be bugs and weather and wildlife.   There is poison oak on the property although the trail down to river is well maintained and the camp area is completely cut and clear.  There are ticks! Even in short grass!  Be prepared!  You will be responsible for bringing all personal items, bedding, food and drinks and anything else you require to be comfortable.  There is a Walmart located 30 minutes away in a nearby town and grocery stores and pretty good restaurants within 20 minutes, along with your standard take out.  There is no delivery to the area.  Anything non-perishable that is purchased and left behind will be donated to the local charity.  If transporting your pillow and sheets isn’t worth it to you, know that purchased items will find a good use once you are gone with someone who needs it at the local charity.

The water is well and tested every three years for everything under the sun and is perfect.  Completely drinkable.  If you are more comfortable bringing your own water, please do so.  Water in plastic will NOT be provided.
 
Recommendation for items to bring with you
Any medication or personal effects.  Marijuana is illegal in the state of North Carolina and does not recognize medical use cards.  Vaping HEMP CBD is legal if it contains less than 3%.  On Property - If you are going to smoke or vape legally, do it downwind. 
WARM clothing even if you don't think you will need it, It snowed the second week in April this year.
All your bedding and pillow, an electric blanket will ensure a good night sleep.  Heater in tent provided however, it’s still a three-season tent.  If you want to bring a hammock tent and stretch out between the tree for the night, have at it! 
Fire Bug equipment - IF you want to "be the fire!" There are a couple shovels, water of course, cut provided wood, but the dead wood collection on property will need cutting tools. I can't provide that to you for insurance reasons. :) 
Food and any drinks you might want.  Coffee and Tea bar provided.  Well water (tested every three years) provided with Britta. Alcohol is permitted as long as it does not create a disturbance for other campers. 
Flashlight – NO CANDLES IN TENTS.  
Wading boots or sandals for the river and stream, The water is always COLD and rocky.
Closed toe shoes.  The trails are natural and although we trim back our area, the mica mine, the beaver damn, and amazing adventures wait to be found down the secret overgrown path onto the state land.  
Ear buds/Bluetooth headset for your personal music, meditation, movies, etc.  The tent area is a “no chat / no noise” zone during the day and later evening.  The fire pit is a full chat zone in the early evening.  If you want to chat in the tent area, please keep your voice very low and move longer conversations to other places on the property or into the communal areas.
Wi-Fi is available but not guaranteed. It also might not reach the tent area depending on your equipment.  You may wish to download content if you want to take it into the forested area, river area or tents at night. 

 
Animal Policy
No pets.  
Emotional Support animals are only acceptable with K9 Good Samaritan Certification for Registered Trainer. We do verify.
All Service Animals and PSD’s are acceptable with submission of training school.  We do verify.
Self-trained PSD is acceptable with proof of K9 Good Samaritan Certification from registered trainer. We do verify.
Therapy Animal are accepted with verification of national certification from a recognized organization like Pet Partners or ACK.  We verify certification.
All animal must be on a leash and within 6’ of owner at all times for their own safety.  
We have wild animals that include predator's.  We have huge birds of prey hunting the river.  They are glorious and we can't be responsible for small or unattended animals.   
 
Pricing Structure
A person must purchase a primary spot ticket; secondary tickets are only allowed to be purchased by the primary spot holder. 

Two persons maximum per tent.  Three Primary all inclusive spots are $600 for everything, $200 for a second person in tent option. 

Non-refundable $100 to receive complete information package with exact locational receipt from rental company.

No refunds for bad weather, sorry but that one is out of my control.  We do have an emergency cabin if weather is sever.  

I will have a last minute first come first serve list in case of last-minute cancelations, full payment due within 2 days of acceptance of the slot. 

Arrival after 5pm, five nights and four full days, departure by 11am day 5.  This gives you 4 full days of relaxation and a relaxed leaving day.

Price includes for your use – Tent /w power, cot (NOT bedding, just the cot), camp chair, folding individual table, heater, private mini fridge in central bathhouse, coffee/tea center, property/river access, crafting supplies and equipment, shared heated bath house.

One Spot 8x8 raised platform with power with no camping gear provided.  If you are in the Appalachians and wish your bring your own camping gear.  This spot without camping equipment is $400 for the primary and an extra $200 for a second person in tent.
