The Crone's Public Grimoire

Before attempting magic of any sort, you need to get to a mental place that's comfortable for you to work in.   Maybe that's meditating on a pillow, a swim in the pool, standing in the shower, praying to the God of Abraham, lighting incense at the base of an old god/dess statue, or simply closing your eye's for five minutes.
There is no wrong answer
However you clear and focus your mind to achieve a task is the RIGHT way

Build a Spell Witchcraft 101 – Where to start?

I see a lot of posts from new witches just basically saying that they want to try their first spell, Where do they start?

First off, pick something you're interested in. Maybe this is having a little extra cash, maybe it's getting new friends, maybe it's feeling better or sleeping well. Whatever your interest in that's where you start.

Second, really think about what draws your interest to the craft. Do you love searching for photos of crystals or is your interest more in altars? Do you love plants and spend lots of time in your garden, or are you more of a horoscope person who is attached to the moon phases and stars? Whatever your main interest, this is probably where you will find your best connection to your craft.

So let's say for example, you're starting a new job and you want to do a little spell to have your new coworkers like you.  You really like candles, you're drawn to Firemagic and looking for different things to do with candles. You are also a night owl, someone who loves to be outside looking at the moon.

Third, get a glass of your favorite beverage, grab a piece of paper and pen, and get a little comfortable. Think about what you want to accomplish with your spell.  In this case we want our new coworkers to see us as a friendly, new member of the team.  Basically, you want them to be your friend right from the start.  Now we google.  So we type – “spell for new friends candle moon”, and in true google form 4000 results pop out.

Fourth,  this is really the fun part.  Start opening up the pages.  If you see photos of a candle that excite you, stop and read.  Why does this candle interest you? Is it dressed with herbs? What are those herbs? does it have rings carved into it? Why?  Numerology… ooohh…   Stop and read.

So for our example, let's say you found four or five different pages that all use similar ingredients and you have picked out those ingredients that speak to you.  For our example spell, you have picked out a yellow candle, rose petals to dress it with, and carnation essential oil and you have an amethyst necklace you already love and makes you feel confident.  You want to attach people to you, so you google moon phase for attracting friends, and you have time to do it between new moon and full; the “come into my life, grow larger, attraction” phases.

Fifth, time to go shopping. Make it a pleasant afternoon grab your favorite drink and prepare to browse! You know you're going to buy yourself a yellow candle and a rose and hopefully some carnation essential oil (popular), but you have no idea of where the adventure will lead or what else you will see during this outing. Hopefully your outing is in person to your local gem shop, wicca store or candle place even Walmart and you can pick a rose up from most grocery stores or even gas stations. But if not there's always online and who knows where that will lead.

And all of a sudden, you were there!  Doing the thing!  You found the little spell phrase you connected with and you have it written on a card.  You have your yellow candle and you're wearing your amethyst necklace. The moon is up and you're either sitting maybe in a park or maybe in your backyard even in your bedroom.  You smooth the oil over the candle like the youtuber did and stick the little cut up pieces of rose pedal to it.  You light your candle you say your little phrase and you think about what you want to accomplish good impression friendship having an enjoyable workplace while you wear your amethyst necklace that makes you feel powerful and in control. The day you go to work you wear the necklace and you have a shield or a glamour around you that you cast on yourself in love to empower you and make your life better. Go you, you powerful witch!

Why does this work on the first try? From a bunch of stuff you found on the Internet? It's not just something you read in one spot and copied it's something you have thought about for days. It's something you had to go out and hunt down parts for. All of that time, all of that effort, is going into the creation of the spell just as much as the five minutes you light the candle. The second thing this really does for you, is it starts you on your way to building your apothecary or your cabinet. You only needed two rose petals but now you have a jar of rose petals. You only needed one yellow candle but let's say you bought a 5 pack from the dollar store, now you have 4 candles for future spells. When you build your spells yourself, you will always have leftovers and the leftovers are things you're already interested in and already want to work with.  Soon you will understand all the jar meme’s!

Hope this helps in some way!  There is no religion here, unless you want there to be a religion.  Google is your friend – “Which god/dess is associated with work place?”
Magic is not religion; It's philosophy
